Take action on the Cable Consumer Repair Bill

For PEG, it will mean:

  • Cable subscribers will once again be able to support their local community channels through PEG fees as set by local city councils (capped at about 60 cents per subscriber per month)
  • Video providers will once again pay for transmission equipment -- not pass that cost on to property taxpayers, and
  • Every cable subscriber will receive their local community PEG channels just like they receive the local broadcast channels.

Cities are drafting resolutions. A sample your city can use (in Microsoft Word format) is here.

THANK the co-sponsors of this bill who are supporting local television by co-sponsoring AB606, the Cable Consumer Repair Bill.

Take action on The Community Access Preservation Act of 2009

Advocates of PEG channels are urged to contact their Member of Congress and ask that they co-sponsor Rep. Baldwin's bill. The House of Representatives' switchboard number is (202) 224-3121 or go to this link to send an email.

After identifying yourself, tell your Congress member:

I'm calling to ask that Rep. ______ support Rep. Tammy Baldwin's bill, the Community Access Protection Act. We need this bill to protect my local community access station. I support all four provisions of this bill: regulating all video providers in the same way, requiring video providers to carry PEG channels like they carry broadcast channels, allowing PEG stations to use their PEG fees for any purpose, and requiring the FCC to look into the affect state franchising laws have had on PEG. During the study period, PEG should continue to receive support.

If you'd rather write than call, sample letters are here.

Let's encourage our entire Congressional delegation to support Tammy's efforts!

And while you're at it, please thank Rep. Tammy Baldwin for her leadership on this issue.
